Thanks to all of you who were out buying Silver Eagles this holiday season the "Unofficial Sales Total" hit the staggering record of 5,206,000 ounces sold in December!
I use the term "Unofficial Total" because the US Mint was sandbagging the official numbers to disguise the real sales figure. Yes, the US Mint is in on the con game. The reason I know they rigged the numbers this is that unless the Mint was open on January 2nd (a Federal holiday) the 3,197,000 ounces posted midday on January 3rd were actually December sales!
Here's the numbers posted by the US Mint:
December 2011 = 2,009,000
January 3, 2012 = 3,197,000
Unofficial December Total = 5,206,000
